The cast of The Simpsons is so talented at creating a variety of voices that you may not be able to recognize a character's voice. Here is a list of primary characters played by the regular cast members and frequent guest cast members.

Dan Castellaneta

Dan Castellaneta is one of the actors who voices a large percentage of characters on The Simpsons, including the star of the show, Homer Simpson. He has also appeared in other TV shows, such as Everybody Loves Raymond, Bones and Castle. He's won four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance on The Simpsons.

Nancy Cartwright

Nancy Cartwright grew up in Dayton, Ohio, before moving to Los Angeles where legendary Daws Butler coached her into the voice-over actress she is today. She published a book titled My Life as a Ten Year Old Boyabout her career and the impact on her life playing Bart Simpson has had. She has voiced dozens of characters over the years, including Rufus on Kim Possible and Chuckie on Rugrats. In 1992 she won an Emmy for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for her work as Bart in "Separate Vocations."

Julie Kavner

Julie Kavner had already made a name for herself as a comedic actress on Rhoda before signing on to The Simpsons. In 1992 she won an Emmy for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance.

Yeardley Smith

Yeardley Smith is one of only two actresses on The Simpsons to perform only one character (see Marcia Wallace), however she performs that character marvelously. She won an Emmy in 1992 for "Lisa the Greek." She has also found success in live action in TV shows like Dharma & Greg and Herman's Head, and movies like City Slickers and As Good As It Gets.

Hank Azaria

Hank Azaria is a busy man. He's starred in dozens of live action films and TV shows, in addition to the stable of characters he voices on The Simpsons. He is most recognized for The Smurfs, Huff, Night at the Museum and The Birdcage. He's won three Emmys for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance on The Simpsons, as well as an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie in Tuesdays with Morrie in 2000.

Harry Shearer

Harry Shearer is a talented interviewer, talking with folks for his radio show. He is most famous for his role of Derek Smalls in This Is Spinal Tap. He also starred in A Mighty Wind. On The Simpsons, he plays some of the biggest characters in Springfield.

Pamela Hayden

Pamela Hayden can pitch her voice to play young boys or pleasant women. She can be heard in other cartoons in addition to The Simpsons, such as Hey Arnold! and Aaahh!!! Real Monsters.

Marcia Wallace

Marcia Wallace was wonderful as the cynical, sarcastic and sexy Edna Krabappel. She won an Emmy in 1992 for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance. But she was most famous for her roles in live-action TV shows, like The Bob Newhart Show and The Young and the Restless. Sadly, Marci Wallace died on October 26, 2013.

Tress MacNeille

Tress MacNeille is one of those voice-over actresses who works constantly in a variety of small roles. The Simpsons has given her many opportunities to stretch her talents with cameo characters. She also stars on Futurama as Mom and on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse as Daisy Duck.

Maggie Roswell

When Maude Flanders died on The Simpsons, fans worried about the fate of Maggie Roswell. However, she performs several of the female characters on The Simpsons. She was also Pearl Pureheart in Mighty Mouse, the New Adventures.
