Top 8 Playstation 2 Games Based on Cartoons

By Nancy Basile, About.com

Many primetime cartoons have licensed video games. Here's a top picks list of PS2 games of "The Simpsons," "SpongeBob Squarepants" and more.

1. "The Simpsons" Hit and Run

"Hit and Run" is the best "Simpsons" video game so far. Obviously mimicing the spicy game "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City," "Hit and Run" provides fans of "The Simpsons" with gleeful freedom to drive or walk throughout Springfield, causing mayhem or winning missions. "Simpsons" references and jokes abound, as well as Springfield locations. For serious players and fans, the special collector's feature (for collecting trading cards throughout the game) is must-see.

2. "SpongeBob SquarePants" Revenge of the Flying Dutchman

"Revenge of the Flying Dutchman" is more tedious than the other "SpongeBob SquarePants" games. But it can be very rewarding to win the game. SpongeBob accidentally unleashes the ghost of the Flying Dutchman. As SpongeBob, you must complete various levels by collecting items, then being rewarded with tiles that spell "SpongeBob." But the gameplay is easy and a lot like "Crazy Taxi." You can have fun earning money to unlock more automobiles and characters, but there's not much else for you in re-playing the game.

4. "SpongeBob SquarePants" Battle for Bikini Bottom

Here's a great game that replicates the broad reach its TV show has: Adults and kids can enjoy it. The silly antics and humor of the "SpongeBob Squarepants" show are evident. The stuff will serve you well later on.

6. "The Simpsons" Skateboarding

If you like extreme sports game, you might enjoy this. It takes a few hours to learn the tricks, but once you do, they're easy to duplicate. Only nine "Simpsons" characters are playable, but you can track down other characters within beautifully 3D Springfield to hear more quotes. The adults aren't the best skateboarders to choose. Bart is clearly the best on a skateboard. Fans should enjoy the quotes for a while, but watch out. They get old fast.
