Top 6 Matt Stone and Trey Parker DVDs

By , About.com Guide

As you may know by now, I'm a fan of "South Park." But am I a fan of Matt Stone and Trey Parker's other work? It depends. Here is my top picks list of films and TV shows created by "South Park" producers Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

1. "South Park" TV Series

Matt Stone and Trey Parker are best known as the creators of "South Park" on Comedy Central. The show has been a hit for the network since it debuted in 1997. "South Park" continues to parody current politicians, pop icons and just about anyone in the spotlight. As the library of DVDs grows, I suggest adding to your collection. Like good wine, these shows get better with time.

2. "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut"

Oh, how I loved this movie. I loved it in the theater and I love it on DVD every time I watch it. And who knew that five years after it was released, Saddam Hussein would still be such a hot target? (His parts are the funniest, to me.) The music of this film is brilliant, as noted by an Academy award nomination. I'm sure most of you have seen "Bigger, Longer & Uncut" by now, but if not, go! Rent it! Buy it! Enjoy!

3. "Team American"

Some of us loved it. Some of us were disappointed. This isn't Stone and Parker's best work. I think working with puppets was so much of a learning curve that it hindered their creativity. But the movie does take some really good jabs at celebrities and politics.

4. "Orgazmo"

Okay, this isn't everyone's favorite movie, but if you have the right sense of humor, it's hysterical. This film pokes (no pun intended) a lot of fun at America's idea of sex, whether it be the Mormon view or the porn industry view. With cheesy music and an outlandish plot, I find this film to be a great big, silly, ridiculous joke. Don't let the NC-17 rating fool you. It's no doubt branded as such because of the dialogue.

5. "Cannibal! The Musical"

For a student film created and finished during spring break, "Cannibal! The Musical" ain't too shabby. Fans of "South Park" can see the beginnings of some of the characterization and music they've come to know and love. The film is not too gory for wimps like me, but also not as funny as "South Park."

6. "Baseketball"

I love Stone and Parker, but I feel like they made this movie in a rush after the initial success of "South Park" brought them attention. If you're an avid fan of "South Park," you should watch it just to say you've watched it. Otherwise, check out the above films for better Stone and Parker humor.
