Guide Review - "South Park" - The Complete Sixth Season DVD
Let's examine the first episode, "Jared Has Aides." Here Matt Stone and Trey Parker fire at three sensitive targets in our culture: AIDS, weight loss and a national food chain. Ouch! Not only has this crudely animated and crude-talking show continued for more seasons than anyone would have ever guessed, "South Park" dares to tackle subjects other comedies would cringe to think about.
My favorite episode from this season is "The Terrance And Philip Movie Trailer." I love it for three reasons. (Three? Is there a trend here?) The first is that the show unabashedly destroys Russell Crowe's reputation (if it wasn't already) by depicting him as "Fightin' Round The World." Secondly, I love the theme song to Russell's show. Thirdly, I can totally relate to the boys waiting through some lame show just to see a 30 second trailer to a movie they're dying to see.
In this season of "South Park" we lose Ms. Choksondik, but gain Mr. Slave and Lemmiwinks. Pop culture mainstays like "Lord of the Rings," "The Simpsons" and "Star Wars" are gauged. And possibly the most daring satire concerned "Red Hot Catholic Love," when poor Father Maxi discovers the truth about priests at the Vatican.
Now, as for the lack of extras, what gives? I know it would be a pain, and tedious, after all these seasons to include more goods. But, hey, "The Simpsons" did it.
