Guide Review - "South Park" - The Complete Fifth Season DVD
Needless to say, creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker saw no boundaries for the episodes of season five. At times, even I, an avid fan, was shocked at the lengths they were willing to go. (Does that cripple fight ever end? Did Mr. Garrison really just do that?) But the messages are clear, and that's what's satisfying about "South Park."
The show isn't offensive just for offense sake. There is a message behind each of these outlandish shows. For instance, in "Entity," folks are willing to pay for Mr. Garrison's new mode of transportation, even though it requires inserting something somewhere we don't normally insert things. Why? Because it's still better than dealing with the airlines. No punches pulled there, or anywhere else in the fifth season.
I must, however, say that even though I love these episodes, I am frustrated at the lack of extras. With each full season of "South Park" that's released, I wait, hopefully, for bonus features like the ones included with "The Simpsons." Well, I'll just have to keep waiting.
The mini-commentaries offer some insight into the episodes. After listening to the language used by Stone and Parker, I'm amazed they are able to produce a show the censors approve.
