The list can refer to something as obvious as Bart's blackboard writing at the beginning of every episode. Or, it can catalog something as subtle as the use of the number 17 in various shows. Lists usually note an episode number or title next to each reference.
Where Do "Simpsons" Lists Come From?: Lists are usually compiled by avid "Simpsons" fans. Most of the time they are posted to the newsgroup at alt.tv.simpsons for everyone to enjoy or critique. Sometimes they are uploaded to a fan site. Anyone can keep a list, or add to an existing one.
