What Are Lists?: If you're a "Simpsons" fan who has spent any time on the Web, you have seen something called "lists" at just about ever site you encounter. In this feature I'll explain what lists are, where they come from, and where to find them.
What Are "Simpsons" Lists?: A "Simpsons" list is an index of references made to something specific in "Simpsons" episodes. The list can refer to something as obvious as Bart's blackboard writing at the beginning of every episode. Or, it can catalog something as subtle as the use of the number 17 in various shows. Lists usually note an episode number or title next to each reference.
Where Do "Simpsons" Lists Come From?: Lists are usually compiled by avid "Simpsons" fans. Most of the time they are posted to the newsgroup at alt.tv.simpsons for everyone to enjoy or critique. Sometimes they are uploaded to a fan site. Anyone can keep a list, or add to an existing one. At "The Simpsons" Archive, staff members are assigned to specific lists in order to keep the work load to a minimum for one person.
Where Can I Find Some Lists?: Start here, at About, to read some of the funniest "Simpsons" lists. Then visit "The Simpsons" Archive. They include everything from technical lists, like what colors are used in the animation, to fun stuff, like how many times "The Simpsons" has taken a shot at Fox.
