In May of 2009, King of the Hill will air its 250th episode. That's quite an achievement for any TV show, let alone an animated comedy.
Kathy Najimy, the actress who gives voice to Peggy Hill, has had a long career in live-action and animated films and TV shows. Her most memorable film role was probably the one that gave her a big break, as a nun in Sister Act. And on TV, she starred with Kirstie Alley in Veronica's Closet.
Though she does big projects, such as WALL-E, after thirteen seasons (and counting) she still rocks the Texas twang for King of the Hill.
I had the immense pleasure of chatting with Najimy about King of the Hill. We both agreed that the show is under-appreciated, living in the shadows of The Simpsons and Family Guy.
I asked Kathy Najimy when she signed on if she predicted the show would have such longevity. "Not at all," she replied. "I had no idea."
Of Mike Judge, who has created such fare as Idiocracy and Beavis and Butt-head, she said you couldn't meet a nicer guy. "You would have no idea," she said, that he possesses such an off-beat sense of humor.
Najimy said she felt very lucky to be working on such a good show with such an outstanding cast, like Brittany Murphy, and now Tom Petty. Usually, she said, they all record the episode together in the studio, unless someone is away for another project.
When I asked her what she would like to see on King of the Hill, she said, "Peggy and Hillary Clinton have an affair!" I'm not sure if she was giving us a clue about Peggy's political agenda, or if she'd just like to have Clinton as a guest star.
Kathy Najimy, as you can tell, has a ribald sense of humor. She said that to celebrate King of the Hill's 250th episode, the cast and crew would host a topless party.
To that I say, "I'll tell you what!"
