Could Homer Simpson win "Survivor?"

By Nancy Basile, About.com

Arguments For

Unlike Sean in the original "Survivor," Homer would have no trouble with regularity.
Bart confessed as much in "Like Father, Like Clown" when he said, "Don't worry, I don't even like using the bathroom after you."

Homer will eat anything!
He's proven this many times before. In "Homer and Apu", for instance, he ate canned ham that expired February 6, 1989. And don't forget when he ate dirt under the bleachers in "Duffless."

Homer can lie with the best of them.
He would most certainly beat Richard and Susan at their own game concerning the alliance. In Homer's own words from "Colonel Homer," "Marge, it takes two to lie. One to lie and one to listen." Or recall Homer's philosophy from "Bart the General" when he said, "And there's nothing wrong with hitting someone when his back is turned."

When it comes to finding food, Homer never fails.
Homer was able to locate food in "Call of The Simpsons." Although, he ate handfuls of honey and bees.

Homer doesn't mind wearing something other than clothes.
He and Bart dressed in mud ferns, and moss in "Call of The Simpsons."

Homer would be a better fisherman.
He proved his fisherman's prowess when he caught General Sherman, a huge catfish, in "The War of The Simpsons."

Arguments Against

Homer was able to start a fire in "Homer the Heretic."
Although, the fire started when Homer fell asleep reading "Playdude." His lit cigar fell out of his mouth and caught the magazine on fire. There goes the hut!

Just like Richard, Homer would be prone to walk around nude.
In "Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy," he threw his pants out the window and swore he would never need them again. He tossed his pajamas out the window in "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace" as well, much to a bystander's dismay. In "D'oh-in' in the Wind," he is naked on the front lawn and remarks to a shocked Mrs. Flanders, "Come on, Maude, the human wang is a beautiful thing."His horrific nudity would certainly get him voted off the island quickly.

Generally Homer is not successful at challenges.
As he said in "Otto Show," "If something's hard to do then it's not worth doing." He also advised Bart and Lisa in "Burns' Heir", saying, "Kids, you tried your best, and you failed miserably. The lesson is: never try."

Homer's homophobia might get the best of him.
Homer would be apt to have himself voted off after Richard's confession. In an episode appropriately titled "Homer's Phobia," he declares, "Oh, my son doesn't stand a chance! The whole world has gone gay!" Perhaps Homer and Rudy could form their own alliance, thus using their fears to their own advantage.
