Homer Simpson's Green Valley 'Burgers

By Nancy Basile, About.com

Dark beer and green chiles give this Homer Simpson burger a dark and spicy taste. Thanks to John Bade in Georgie for this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef (round or sirloin)
  • 1/4 cup dark beer
  • 1 fresh egg
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can chopped green chilies, drained
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

Combine ground beef, beer, egg, salt and pepper, and form into 8 patties 1/4 - 3/8" thick.

Heat olive oil in a skillet over a very low heat, stir in flour and cook, stirring constantly, until light brown, being careful not to let it burn.

Add garlic and green chilies and continue to cook until heated through, again, do not burn.

Divide mixture between 4 patties and spread to approximately 1/2" from edge. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons Monterey Jack cheese on top of mixture. Top with another patty and seal the edges tightly.

Grill as desired and serve on sesame seed buns.
