'Futurama' Characters

Fry is the pizza delivery boy, who is now an intergalactic delivery boy. Billy West (Ren and Stimpy) lends his voice to this lead character. In his new life, he lives in his robotic friend Bender's closet, and feels unrequited love for his mutant captain, Leela.

Played by Katey Sagal (Married with Children), beautiful Leela was given to the Orphinarium by her parents with a note that led everyone to believe she was an alien, not a mutant. Later, she met Fry while working as a Fate Assignment Officer. As she attempted to implant a job chip in Fry's head, he convinced her that her job wasn't what she wanted to do with her life. Now she is captain of the Planet Express delivery ship, owned by Fry's elderly nephew.

Bender is Fry's robotic friend, played by John Dimaggio (Kim Possible). Jordan "meatbag" Eisenberg describes him best: "Bender is not your everyrobot. He is a dysfunctional, drinking, smoking, gambling, kleptomaniacal robot with a passion for pornography and prostitutes." Who wouldn't love this character? In fact, IGN.com chose Bender as the Best Supporting Character of 1999. My favorite thing about Bender is that he has to drink alcohol to stay healthy. When he stops, he turns into a drunken lazy slob. Genius!

The Professor is also played by Billy West. He is Fry's great-nephew, and only living relative. Professor Farnsworth owns Planet Express where most of the characters work. His catch phrase is, "Great news, everyone!" Following that is usually bad news. He has invented many things that don't necessarily work, such as a Doomsday Device and a What-If Machine.

Amy is the intern at Planet Express. Voiced by Lauren Tom (King of the Hill), this character hails from a wealthy family from Mars. She is shallow and cute. She develops a love for Kif, Zapp Brannigan's alien lieutenant.

Dr. Zoidberg is a crustacean who serves as the staff doctor for Planet Express. He loves to eat everything, including garbage. He is a sadsack loser who couldn't even find a mate on his home planet during mating season. Good thing, because once someone from his species mates, they die.

Zapp is also voiced by Billy West. He is Leela's romantic nemesis. He is a well-decorated captain, but a coward and egomaniac. He enjoys humiliating Kif, and he can usually be seen dressed in only the jacket of his uniform, sans pants of any kind.

Kif, played by Maurice LaMarche (Tripping the Rift), is Zapp's reluctant assistant. He develops a love for Amy and eventually carries their offspring.

Hermes, voiced by Phil LaMarr (Mad TV), is the office administrator at Planet Express. He revels in paperwork and endless protocols. His wife is quite attractive, and known to be fickle. Hermes speaks with a Jamaican accent.
