Collecting "The Simpsons"

A chat with William LaRue

By Nancy Basile, About.com

Bill: I do have some contacts at Fox, but mostly it's tips from other fans who come across stuff. Thank God for them! Alf Clausen is probably about the most accessible person involved in the show. Not too many other Emmy winners I know actually read newsgroups and post.

Nancy: LOL, that's the truth. His interview at your site was enjoyable to read. He seems like a genuine person, and quite a genius.

Bill: I also interviewed him a few years ago, so I just contacted him again through Rhino. It helps I'm also a professional journalist. Yes, he is a genius.

Nancy: Yes, you have the key to all gates: the business card. Well, it's nigh on 10 PM, so I'll allow one more question.

Bill: Oooh, pressure. Just kidding.

Nancy: Oh, this is a good one, what should I get a die-hard fan for Christmas?

Bill: Let me think a second. My book.

Nancy: LOL, good answer!!! Do you have a favorite web site that you visit?

Bill: Seriously, if the action figures are available, I'd grab those up. "The Simpsons" Archive is definitely good. About.com, too.

Nancy: Thanks! Yes, "The Simpsons" Archive is really quite a source. Again, William LaRue, our guest tonight and web master of Collecting "Simpsons!"

Bill: Thank you everybody. E-mail me anytime.

Nancy: is releasing a book tomorrow called Collecting "Simpsons!". You can purchase it through the bookstore here, or lots of other major online stores. Thanks, LaRue, for joining us tonight and imparting your wisdom!

Bill: Thank you for inviting me.

Nancy: A transcript of this chat will be available, so if you missed a few questions, never fear.

Bill: Yes, although some distribution hangups might keep it from being in regular stores for another week or so.

Nancy: Thanks to all of you for attending!! I hope to see you in the trivia chat tomorrow night at 9 PM ET to win "The Simpsons" Christmas Special on VHS! Good to know. Thanks again! Collecting "Simpsons!" Bye all!
