'Gumby: The Movie':

In Gumby: The Movie, Gumby and his band, the Clayboys, play a benefit concert to help local farmers keep their farms. But the Blockheads create a plan to kidnap the band and Gumby's dog Lowbelly, after they discover Lowbelly cries pearls when he hears Gumby's music.

Background:

Gumby: The Movie was originally released in theaters in 1995. This DVD is a re-mastered version of that original stop-motion animation movie. Joe Clokey, son of Gumby creator Art Clokey, is working to re-release the Gumby catalogue on re-mastered DVDs. He previously released Gumby Essentials Volume One on DVD.

My Two Cents:

Gumby: The Movie is a great family film, especially for pre-school and early elementary kids to watch. There isn't humor that's meant for adults that blows over kids' heads. Plus, I think it helps to have a very young mind in order to buy into the surreal plot.

I found the stop-motion animation to be a little distracting at first. Compared to more recent films, like The Corpse Bride and Wallace and Grommit, Gumby: The Movie looks low budget and primitive. But at the same time, that's what makes the film endearing.

'80s Gumby fans will love this DVD. The picture is sharp and the music is certainly reminiscent of that decade. Fans with children can feel confident that Gumby: The Movie will be a safe and entertaining introduction for their kids. Compare prices for Gumby: The Movie.
