Guide Review - "Clerks Uncensored" DVD
First, I felt that because it was aired on network television, that Smith had to sacrifice much of his wit and adult insight in order to meet primetime moral standards.
Yes, the writing is still ironic and funny. Yes, he still skewers big concepts and big people. But the adult language and humor I've come to love wasn't there, and there can be no substitute.
The animation itself is fun to watch. It's very stylish and offbeat. The characters are sharp and pointy, much like Kevin Smith's jokes. Guest talent includes Alec Baldwin, who is always a winner in my book for taking risks, like appearing on "The Simpsons" and this show.
If you've never seen Smith's films, or find them too offensive, this watered-down version of his take on life might be the perfect way to become his fan. But if you're looking for Smith's R-rated barbs, you'll be disappointed.
