"The Simpsons" Octoberfest

Duff Beer, Duff Gardens and Duff Brewery

By , About.com Guide

Ah, Octoberfest in Springfield on "The Simpsons." No other town offers more ways to celebrate the harvest season with Duff beer. Here are some suggestions for enjoying the best Octoberfest attractions, food, and spirits Springfield has to offer on "The Simpsons."

Duff Gardens, located a few miles outside the city, is the Octoberfest headquarters of Springfield. Created by the masterminds at Duff Brewery, the theme park provides rides and attractions to simulate inebriation. The Barrel Roll is the star rollercoaster, which comes with motion-sickness bags, smelling salts, and a Unitarian Bible. After the ride, enjoy the festive music and atmosphere that's reminiscent of the Old Worlde.

When the queasiness left by Duff Gardens wears off, devour a meal at The Hungry Hun. This fine German restaurant not only features the best brautwurst in town, but also former Iron Curtain delicacies such as "Old, Long-Awaited Kaiser Roll" and "Mock Dehydrated Sauerbraten".

If you're in the mood for a more casual dining experience with Octoberfest flair, Izzy's Deli is the place to eat. Izzy's is Springfield's premier delicatessen. Their Octoberfest special is the "Rainier Wolfcastle", which is an edible machine gun made from sauerbraten, kraut, and chopped liver.

Moe's Tavern provides the most casual experience you can have in Springfield. There's plenty of Duff on tap. If you want a more sophistacated drink, order the Flaming Moe, a specialty of the house. If you're lucky, you might get to witness Moe receive a prank call. This happens frequently, and the caller's identity remains unknown. The regulars really get a laugh out of the whole thing.

Of course, if you're not fortunate enough to travel to Springfield for Octoberfest, you can enjoy a "Simpsons" drinking game at home. (Not recommended for anyone under the the legal drinking age.)
