Premise of 'Dr. Katz':
Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist depicts the life of the psychiatrist who is routinely manipulated by everyone – his secretary, his twenty-something son who still lives at home and his bizarre patients. The cartoon introduced two significant production breakthroughs: a computer animation process called Squigglevision," which involves unique animated line drawings and the use of established stand-up comedians' routines which form the dialogue in Dr. Katz' therapy sessions.
History of 'Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist':
Dr. Katz ran for six seasons on Comedy Central, from 1995 to 1999. The series nabbed Peabody and CableACE Awards, as well as a first Primetime Emmy Award.
My Two Cents:
What is the point of releasing this DVD, other than to find another way to package Dr. Katz to make money? I suppose if you're a fan of stand-up comedy, this DVD might be more interesting than if you're a fan of the actual show, since you can skip the stories and get right to the routines. But a better bet would be to buy Dr. Katz: The Complete Series.
