The Bottom Line

Drawn Together is one of those shows where you really have to like gross-out humor. It's this generation's Married With Children, which I didn't like at the time, but seems almost cute now. The DVD is well done with lots of great extras. The commentaries made me like the show and, heck, that Adam Carolla (Spanky Ham) is a funny guy. I wish that it was a little more clever with its characters (I feel like we've seen Disney made fun of this way before), but they do get into some hilarious situations.

Guide Review - 'Drawn Together' - Uncensored!: Season Three DVD

It's really difficult to satirize reality shows because they're so inherently silly. It's like trying to lampoon modern art: Your dropped-paint fake Pollock isn't really that different from a real one, so it's not funny. So, what you really make fun of is the process, like the blindfolded naked man throwing paint with a spoon, or whatever.

I'm not saying that every reality show is Drawn Together, but they are all just a few short steps away. I know this is a logical leap, but I think Drawn Together is an in-joke for fans of animation and it does seem to do an interesting job of bringing together a bunch of different kinds of animation. If you are a fan of different kinds of animations, you will love this.

Personally, I think the pig that is a pig, Spanky Ham, has nothing on that cigar-chomping baby from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, who is obviously Spanky's spiritual godfather. But that's sort of a strange way to look at Drawn Together, deeply, when it's just going for laughs, which they do get, although in a low-brow way.

There is some great comedic timing, delivery and genuinely surprising moments on the show. But to care about what happens to any of these characters? Well, see a doctor.

But if you're looking for cheap laughs and think flatuence is funny, this is the show for you. The DVD is especially great if you're a fan, with funny commentaries and imaginative extras.

And I didn't notice any actual cartoon nudity.
