Optimus Prime - Transformers Prime

Optimus Prime - Transformers Prime

Shout! Factory

Transformers Prime deepens the epic mythology of both the Autobots and Decepticons, while starting fresh for a new generation of viewers and future fans. Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Arcee, Ratchet, Bulkhead, newcomer Skyquake and many other 'Bots are back to "roll out" against Megatron's latest attempt to conquer Earth. And Megatron proves to be more powerful than ever, having acquired a rare element that allows him mastery over life itself. Team Prime may only be few 'Bots against the Decepticon hordes, but they find increased strength through bonds forged with three human teenagers. Watch a trailer >>>

The cutting edge computer-generated animation has a bold and modern new look. Transformers Prime debuted on The Hub on February 11, 2011.

Transformers Prime comes from from Executive Producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, both of whom served as writers for the feature films Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Star Trek, plus Jeff Kline, who was executive producer of the animated series Jackie Chan Adventures and Men in Black: The Series.

Cast and Characters

Arcee and Jack - Transformers Prime

Arcee and Jack - Transformers Prime

The Hub/Hasbro
In Transformers Prime, the humans join the Autobots in the figt against the Deceopticons, which leads to a larger, and stronger, cast.

Autobots (Good Guys)

Optimus Prime - Autobot leader and Superman-like robot, Optimus Prime is played by legendary Peter Cullen, who has played this character in every Transformer series or movie, lending Transformers Prime a consistent and credible character arc. You have also heard him as Eeyore in My Friends Tigger & Pooh and other Winnie the Pooh movies.

Arcee - Sumalee Montanp plays Arcee, the motorcycle Autobot who is charged with watching out for teenager Jack Darby. (Hm, because she's the female 'Bot?) You may have seen her as Deputy Coroner Melinda Mallari in Close to Home.

Bulkhead - Bulkhead is played by Kevin Michael Richardson, who can be heard on nearly every animated series on TV. He plays Cleveland Brown, Jr. on The Cleveland Show, Maurice on The Penguins of Madagascar, Panthro on ThunderCats, Kilowog on Green Lantern, Jeremiah Burger on Dan Vs. and Jabba the Hutt on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, among many other roles over the years.

Ratchet - Jeffrey Combs plays Ratchet, Team Prime's go-to 'Bot for repairs. Jeffrey Combs has a long career in sci fi, playing Kevin Burkhoff in The 4400, Commander Shran in Star Trek: Enterprise and Weyoun in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. But he is most famous for playing Herbert West in Re-Animator.

Decepticons (Bad Guys)

Megatron - Evil Megatron is played by another voice-over legend, Frank Welker. Like Peter Cullen, Frank Welker has played Megatron in every series or movie about Transformers. He is also the voice of Fred in most Scooby-Doo cartoons, Nibbler in Futurama and Professor XXXL in Codename: Kids Next Door. He also spoofs his well-known characters on Family Guy and Robot Chicken.

Breakdown - Adam Baldwin plays Breakdown, the heavy metal henchman for Megatron. Adam Baldwin plays John Casey on Chuck, but for me, he will always be Jayne from Firefly and Serenity.

Knockout - Daran Norris plays Knockout on Transformers Prime. His goofy voices can also be heard as Francisco in T.U.F.F. Puppy, Cosmo in The Fairly OddParents and J. Jonah Jameson in The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Starscream - Starscream is another Transformers character played by a legendary voice-over actor: Steve Blum. Steve Blum can be heard all over TV networks, playing all sorts of characters, including Amon on The Legend of Korra and Barry on Regular Show and Logan/Wolverine on X-Men.

Jack Darby - Though the Transformers are the stars of the show, humans, in the form of teenagers, still play a major role in helping mankind to survive. Teen leader Jack Darby is played by real-life look-alike Josh Keaton, who also plays Hal Jordan on Green Lantern, Valtor on Winx Club and Peter Parker on The Spectacular Spider-Man. Jack's guardian Autobot is Arcee.

Miko Nakadai - Tania Gunadi plays tough girl Miko Nakadai, whose Autobot protector is Bulkhead. You may have seen her as Allison Wong on Even Stevens, in a guest appearance on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as Sun Li, or most recently as Emma Lau on Aaron Stone.

Raf - Quiet Raf, whose full name is Rafael Esquivel, is played by Andy Pessoa, who is probably best known for playing Stinky Cast on Zeke and Luther. Bumblebee is Raf's Autobot protector and pal.

June - Veteran TV actress Markie Post plays Jack's mother, June Darby. Markie Post is very famous for her starring roles in TV comedies from the '80s and '90s, such as Night Court and Hearts Afire. She has had numerous guest star appearances on TV, including roles on Ghost Whisperer, Scrubs and The District.

Agent William Fowler - The other grown-up in the Autobots' world is Agent Fowler, played by Ernie Hudson. Ernie Hudson has been working in Hollywood for over two decades. He's most recognizable as Winston Zeddmore from Ghostbusters. You may also know him as Dr. Fields on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Frank Gibson on Law & Order, and Detective Ridley on Desperate Housewives.

My Two Cents

Transformers Prime looks like a feature film, with action to match. The animation style is dark and rich, to match the heavy tone of this primetime storyline. Seen in this well-crafted cartoon, the characters are fleshed out with believable and interesting backstories. In rare times, the dialogue is stilted, shoe-horning in some of the characters. But make time to watch this excellent animated series and you won't be sorry.
