'The Venture Bros.'

Hank and Dean Venture

Hank and Dean Venture

Adult Swim

Premise:

In a secret, high-tech laboratory, a Dr. Venture toils over some truly peculiar, and probably completely unnecessary, experiments. Outside, his two dimwitted sons, Hank and Dean, insult each other and ride around on their motorized scooters. Their bodyguard, Brock Samson, dreams of killing people and having sex with women, at the same time, if that's possible. The Venture Bros. originally premiered on Adult Swim February 16, 2003.

Characters:

Dr. Venture is haunted by the spirit of his dead father, reminded that he has driven the family business, Venture Industries, into the ground. Hank and Dean Venture are fraternal twins. Hank considers himself to be the "jock," and Dean thinks he's the "brains." They have a bodyguard named Brock Samson, an operative of a shadowy government agency. Brock was assigned to protect the Venture family years ago. Villains named The Monarch, The Phantom Limb, Baron Underbheit and the Orange County Liberation Front are all interested in Dr. Venture's work.

Creator:

Jackson Publick (a.k.a. Christopher McCulloch) wrote for The Tick, the animated and live action versions. McCulloch also supplies the voices for the Monarch and Hank Venture.

My Two Cents:

The Venture Bros. remains a popular cartoon on Adult Swim because the show is funny, provides interesting storylines and includes flawed, silly characters. Fans of any spy genre will love The Venture Brothers because everything is spoofed, from the weapons to the villains to the locales. It's also one of the few adult-oriented cartoons that provides an ongoing storyline.
