Heritage:

Apu is an immigrant from India. He was almost deported once, thanks to Homer Simpson and Proposition 24, in "Much Apu About Nothing."

Diet:

Apu is a strict vegetarian, or vegan, eating no milk, eggs or cheese, as he explains in "Lisa the Vegetarian."
