His wife is named Manjula. His mother arranged his marriage to Manjula in "The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons." Sanjay is his brother. Has eight children named Anoop, Gheet, Nabendu, Poonam, Pria, Sandeep, Sashi, and Uma, born in "Eight Misbehavin'."


Apu is an immigrant from India. He was almost deported once, thanks to Homer Simpson and Proposition 24, in "Much Apu About Nothing."


Apu is a strict vegan, eating no milk, eggs or cheese, as he explains in "Lisa the Vegetarian."


Apu worships the Hindu gods Shiva and Ganesh. Homer once attempted to impersonate Ganesh during Apu's wedding in "The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons."

Vocal Skills:

Apu proves he is an accomplished tenor, when he sings a mournful song as the paper boy in "A Streetcar Named Marge."


Apu's convenience store has been the setting for several big events on The Simpsons. Not only has it been robbed several times by Snake, but also Jasper was discovered in the freezer in "Lisa the Simpson." In "Lisa the Vegetarian," Apu shows Lisa his secret passage to the roof through the freezer case marked "Non-Alcoholic Beer."
