Cartoon Games

Free and Online

By , About.com Guide

Whether it's The Simpsons, South Park or Adult Swim shows, I've found the best cartoon games for free online to let you to waste time on the Internet. These games were ranked based on how much fun I had, how difficult (or just difficult enough) it was to play and the graphics and sounds. Just don't let the boss catch you.

1. Adult Swim

There was a time, before apps, when Adult Swim came out with a cool new game once in a while to help promote one of their cartoons, such as Aqua Teen Hunger Force Strip Poker or Harvey Birdman: Habeus Dorkus. Not anymore! Now Adult Swim is a gaming force to be reckoned with, online and in app stores. You can play gory versions of Diner Dash or Kill Thy Neighbor. You can play twisted versions of trendy free app games, such as Hemp Tycoon. Then there are games such as Robot Unicorn Attack and Kill Yourself in Five Minutes. Fun, huh?

2. Comedy Central

Comedy Central has a slew of fun games, almost all of which are show-related. The South Park games are always entertaining. Two of my favorites are very old school. In Shorties Watchin' Shorties Baby Hunt 3000 you must find the babies' favorite items, in order, so they can have their remote back. Sadly, it took me two tries to win. Then there's Drawn Together Soak It. I had a lot of trouble playing this game, but I'm not an expert gamer. Your mission is to soak the characters in the face with ink before they soak you. Beware if you're at the office: This game has loud music and you can't turn it off until a few screens into the game.

3. The Simpsons

Within each character profile are a few funny extras. Some of the characters have games in their file. Homer Simpson has a memory game. Homer's memory game was very challenging and fun. It's a typical memory game where you must match pairs of pictures of Homer. There are lots of pictures, which makes it tough. I successfully matched the pairs in 1 minute, 22 seconds, with 56 total flips. You are rewarded with a "D'oh!" or "Woo hoo!" depending on your ability to match.

4. Nickelodeon

Sure, a lot of these games are geared toward the younger crowd. But that doesn't mean they're not fun or challenging. The best feature of Nick.com's games is that new ones are released very frequently. I particularly like the SpongeBob SquarePants games. I've had to pop bubbles, play carnival games, deflect Krabby Patties and perform amazing feats at top speed.

5. Cartoon Network

So many games, so little time. At Cartoon Network, like Nick.com, you can earn points that are tallied in your account. Play new games to promote new shows, such as Adventure Time's Sound Castle which is a complicated Space Invaders-type game. Or play games that are still available from older cartoons, such as Powerpuff Girls Attack of the Puppybots, that uses keyboard buttons to shoot, fly and charge up.

6. Ren & Stimpy Dutch Oven Game

Nickelodeon Ren and StimpyNickelodeon

Woe is you if you've ever been the victim of a Dutch Oven. In this game, you help Stimpy keep Ren fully gassed. You can even watch him gasping for breath on an undercover cam. Sound effects are definitely included.
