Chelsea Peretti first made a name for herself as a stand-up comedian, working the comedy club circuit, as well as recording specials and performing at comedy festivals. She also worked as a writer for Kroll Show and Parks and Recreation.

Although she appeared in TV shows as herself several times, like in The Burn with Jeff Ross and WTF with Marc Maron, now she's chewing up the scenery as a bona fide actress. She stars in China, IL as Crystal Peppers on Adult Swim, and on FOX's hit comedy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as Gina Linetti.

Chelsea was kind enough to correspond with me by email to answer several questions about current shows.

You play Crystal Peppers on China, IL. What do you think is going on with her sexuality?

"I think a lot is going on with her sexuality. I don't think it's the kind of situation where she doesn't know what she's into. I think she knows exactly what she's into, to a tee -- very, very specifically -- and that it's unprintable."

When I interviewed Brad Neely, the creator of China, IL, he said he wished he had named the cartoon something else. If you could change the name of the series, what would it be?

"That's cool Brad is so vulnerable in a world where so many people try to act like everything they do was preordained by G dash D himself. I think it could have been named simply 'College' or 'Lectures' or 'Academixtape.' Just kidding on that last one! Felt like a real silly word I couldn't pass up on typing out. What about 'Bad Boy Professors?' Nope."

I picture all voice-over actors wearing their pajamas to record their lines. What do you wear?

"Bodybag."

You play Gina on FOX's hilarious comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In a cast full of talented actors, who is the funniest?

"I don't understand the psychology of this question. Won't my castmates all hate me if I really single someone out and deem them funniest? Please let me know how to proceed!"

Do you ever ask Andre Braugher about what it was like to a real cop in Homicide? Or an angel in City of Angels?

"I like talking to Andre about real life things such as Twitter and his dog. I did ask him about Glory though and very much enjoyed his willingness to discuss."

How often do you give Andy Samberg notes, and how well does he take it?

"I do not give Andy notes of any kind except, 'Do you like me as an actor Y/N (circle one).' Sometimes we think of little jokes for each other's characters to say and that is fun."

You have been described as a Twitter hero. What does it take to be a Twitter hero?

"It takes excessiveness. Most people with lots of followers tweet constantly (most likely due to a spiritual deficiency)."

You have performed for years as a stand-up comedian. What's your favorite venue?

"I like Largo in LA. The Comedy Attic in Bloomington. Helium in Portland. Punchline in SF. UCB. Comedy Store. A bunch of theaters all over the country. I am bad at having one favorite."

Are you able to do stand-up while Brooklyn Nine-Nine is shooting? If not, do you miss it?

"I have done limited stand-up while shooting because when I do stand-up I get riled up and can't sleep til around 3 a.m. My call times for BK99 are frequently in the 5:45-7 a.m. ballpark. I feel tired and reclusive so it's nice to take a break but I will get back on the road when we wrap to get ready for my hour special."
