Whether you're a fan of The Simpsons, Family Guy or South Park, you can find a DVD to keep you entertained for hours. These aniamted TV show DVDs are hilarious and come with tons of great extras. Any of them would make a great gift for family or friends, or yourself.
South Park - The Complete Eighth Season includes some of the most provocative episodes Matt Stone and Trey Parker have ever produced. Though the season has a couple of yawns, mostly in "Goobacks" and "Quest for Ratings," overall the show's never been more on-topic or funnier.
As the durability of a show perseveres, one can only question the tenacity of its will to remain true to its integrity. Its a good thing the creators of
The Simpsons were more concerned with writing good jokes that make us laugh, than buying into stuffy ideals of successful programming. Season 8 holds some of the most memorable and quotable episodes. Doing what Bob Geldof couldn't do with Band Aid,
The Simpsons eighth season has managed to hold it together.
The bonus features are the real stars of this
Family Guy DVD set. The commentaries are chock full of great insider stories, and include a wide variety of folks, even guest stars. There are extended versions of episodes, deleted scenes, and fun featurettes. I especially liked watching "A Directors Life: Debunking The Myth" featurette to learn more about the animation process.
By season five, a cartoon series starts to shed it's quirky adolescent habits and begins growing into the man-size shoes it should be wearing. By season five, King of the Hill allowed the writers to develop a lot of storylines and dig deeper into plots that they planted in earlier seasons.
Family Guy is one of my favorite shows, even though sometimes it goes where I would dare not. I really looked forward to
Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story because I knew creator Seth MacFarlane would use this straight-to-DVD opportunity to be a little racier than usual.
For less than the price of a couple roses, you can be the owner of four episodes of
The Simpsons legacy in lovely DVD format. The theme is the story of Homer's and Marges surviving love. The four episodes on the disc are all from 2002 through 2004. They include "Natural Born Kissers," "Large Marge," "Three Gays of the Condo" and "The Way We Werent."
Standout episodes on this
American Dad DVD xinclude "Stan Knows Best," when Hayley begins stripping (much to Stan's dismay) in an attempt to find her independence. The two part episode "Stan of Arabia" chronicles the Smiths' forray into Saudi Arabia and its male-centric culture, which is a dream come true for Stan.
Season one of
Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law may not have won me over, but the second season has captured my heart. In season two, crazy plots are introduced and resolved, the adventures get wilder, and the characters get crazier. Four-and-a-half stars for
Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law is well deserved. Just to underline this,
Harvey Birdman is more awesome than you deserve. But this life isn't fair. So you do get to watch it. My advice? Take advantage.
Dr. Katz is a quiet, dry-witted, babbling psychiatrist whose head-shrinking sessions with comedians are the show's centerpiece. The myriad of guest comics doing schtick, while Dr. Katz alternates between straight man and insult comic, is usually some funny stuff. I was a little worried when I watched the first episode and it didn't really have a good pacing. But as I watched the rest of them, it really started to pick up. There's really a vibe in
Dr. Katz that don't come from nowhere else.
