Guide Review - 'The Critic' - The Complete Series
First off, I wasn't a big fan of The Critic. I could appreciate its humor. I loved the jabs at the movie industry. But it just didn't click with me.However, there are no doubt millions of fans who rate this show pretty high on The Shermometer. True fans, like Family Guy fans, who followed the show from network to network and timeslot to time slot, will love this three disc set of The Critic.
There are only nine episodes with commentary, but quality outweighs quantity here. Creators Al Jean and Mike Reiss, Visual Designer and Producer Rich Moore, and voice talent Maurice LaMarche and Nick Jameson provide fun and candid full-length commentaries. So we ask, where's Jon Lovitz? Who knows? Is he really so busy?
Other fun features include an option to see storyboards and animatics for "A Pig Boy and His Dog." Another "making-of" extra is "Creating The Critic," a featurette featuring Mike Reiss, Al Jean, James L. Brooks, Rich Moore, Maurice LaMarche and Nick Jameson. You'll see how the show was created, and how the characters were developed.
The webisodes included in the extras are fun to watch, but the animation isn't as smooth because they were made for the Internet.
My favorite features were all the "Trailer Parodies" and "Jay's Top Ten List" run together. Here's where the heart the humor of The Critic truly lies.
