Guide Review - "Futurama" DVD Vol. 1
When Matt Groening decided to take time away from "The Simpsons" to try something new, he came up with the idea for a pizza delivery boy named Fry who gets cryogenically frozen and wakes up in the 31st Century. He befriends a Homer-like robot named Bender, a one-eye alien girl named Leela and assorted others. The first season included clever takes on cultural references, such as "Ally McBeal" and "Animal House." Unlike "The Simpsons," "Futurama" season hit the ground running with some of the funniest and most clever shows. Each episode has the detailed commentary of Groening, Cohen and others, for those fans that just have to know all the details. For everyone else, you can just sit back and enjoy the show.
