Scooby Doo: The Mystery Begins Airs Tonight

Sunday September 13, 2009

Tune into Cartoon Network at 7:00 p.m. ET to watch Scooby Doo: The Mystery Begins, a live-action movie to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Scooby Doo. The movie tells the story of how Mystery, Inc. began, including the adoption of Great Dane Scooby. I like the idea of celebrating the anniversary of this wonderful, kooky cartoon. But I think doing an animated movie or re-booting the franchise in a back-to-basics series would be a much better tribute than a live-action movie. Bleh.

Turns out a lot of you liked the idea of a live action Scooby-Doo movie. Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins set all-new records as the most-watched telecast in Cartoon Network history. Whoa.

I certainly didn’t like the previous live action movies. Was this any better?

I have grown up on Scooby Doo and when the live action films came out, they made me laugh. They are light hearted fun and I see every reason why it should continue, with or without Freddy and Sarah. I’ve been waiting to see another live action fun film.
